A forest and nature project situated between Beder and Malling, designed to enhance biodiversity and recreational opportunities for the local community. The area is owned by Aarhus Municipality.
The total project area is 100 hectares and is located in a drinking water extraction zone, thus significantly contributing to the protection of drinking water.
The first 1000 trees were planted in November 2024, and the remaining area will be planted progressively throughout 2025 and 2026.
About the Danish Climate Forest Fund
The Danish Climate Forest Fund was passed into law in Denmark by a unanimous Danish parliament in 2020 to accelerate climate action. The Fund is an independent Danish government entity under the Ministry for Green Tripartite, governed by its own board of directors.
Purpose and legal basis
The Danish Climate Forest Fund aims to promote and finance cost-effective afforestation through the establishment of forest edges and the extraction of lowland soils, primarily within the LULUCF sector, with the goal of reducing carbon emissions.
In other words, the Danish Climate Forest Fund will accelerate nature's own methods of capturing and storing greenhouse gases and thereby support Denmark's climate goals. The Fund also aims to identify and leverage synergies across its climate projects, including areas such as biodiversity, drinking water, nature, environmental protection, outdoor recreation, and cultural heritage.
